Everyone loves New Year's—both children and adults. But, unlike adults, little ones still believe in miracles, and for them, New Year's is a living fairy tale.
Often, only the living room is decorated in a home, and the children's room is forgotten. Yet, it is precisely for a child that the feeling of celebration is so important. I urge you to create a real fairy tale in the children's room as well. Here are a few ideas:
- Festive textiles. I really like the idea of New Year's bedding, or even better, a bedspread or throw, pillows, and soft toys. Choose bright colors: the festive mood is created precisely through color. It doesn't necessarily have to be red, although in red, the bed looks like Santa Claus's suit, and for a girl, you can play on the Snow Maiden's outfit.
- Their own Christmas tree. I believe that a child should have their own little Christmas tree that they can decorate however they want. It can be small—or you can make a variation from fragrant real fir branches with toys and tinsel. An alternative is a fun Christmas tree made of tinsel and toys directly on the wall, and definitely with lights.
- Garlands. They fill the space volumetrically and look cheerful hanging from the ceiling, on a chandelier, or on the wall. The theme can be anything—not just tinsel. You can also make such garlands yourself: cut out gingerbread men, Santa Clauses, or reindeer from colored paper and foil.
- Gingerbread houses. You can buy or craft them. They make a great display: arrange toys nearby, shroud them in "snow" made of cotton wool—and you'll get a cozy New Year's ensemble.
- Snowflakes. Multi-colored or pure white, in different shapes and patterns—carefully attach them to the ceiling or hang them along the wall, and the New Year's mood is guaranteed. (Soon I will show you how to make the most beautiful snowflakes with children.)
You can also decorate the doorway in a New Year's style—adorn it with baubles or, for example, festive boxes.
And be sure to hang a garland in the children's room—by the bed, to fall asleep cozily under shimmering lights, or in a reading corner, where you can wrap yourself in a blanket, drink cocoa with marshmallows, and read New Year's fairy tales. And don't forget about colorful socks and wreaths of fir branches.
And about safety
When decorating a child's room, remember the most important thing. If children are small, it's better not to hang glass ornaments—so they don't break and injure the child. Hang electric garlands carefully, or even better, choose battery-operated garlands: they don't need to be plugged into an outlet, and the voltage in them is minimal and safe.
