A child's right to personal space

Право ребёнка на личное пространство

Have you noticed that from a certain age, children develop a desire for solitude?

Starting around three years old, a child may ask parents not to enter their room or build small "dens," houses, and forts out of chairs and blankets. Why is it important not to interfere with this?

Firstly, this is how a child reduces stress, rests, and releases overwhelming emotions. It's not always easy for us adults to guess what event might be causing a child tension, fear, or indignation. A personal space where they are alone gives them a sense of security — as if everything around them is under their sole control.

Secondly, the desire for solitude is about setting boundaries, both literally and figuratively. Personal space helps a child form their self-identity: they more clearly distinguish themselves from the surrounding world and other people, and better understand their desires and characteristics. At an older age, this manifests as the child starting to change things in their room – hanging posters, inventing things.

Considering all this, imagine what the loss of personal space can mean for a child. This can be a truly traumatic experience. Therefore, it's important for us adults to learn to trust the child and respect their boundaries.

How to help your child?

The most basic thing is their own room where they can always close the door and do their own thing. And no less important is leaving the child alone when they ask for it.

What if there's no separate room yet?

Recently, we encountered exactly this request during a consultation: the child didn't have their own room yet, and the family hadn't moved to a more spacious apartment. Solutions were found:

  • Children's playhouse. In addition to beloved childhood forts, you can buy a ready-made playhouse — there's a huge variety of them: different sizes, colors, and themes.
  • Bunk bed. An excellent solution, especially when there's more than one child: the top bunk is almost a separate room. And if there's only one child, the bottom bunk can be used for sleeping and the top for play.

We want to show several diverse options for a child's secluded corner

Play tent Good size, convenient to take to the dacha, for example, easily assembled and cleaned. An excellent option for a small apartment, or if the child doesn't have their own room.

Wigwam (Teepee) Eco-friendly, safe materials - linen, filling - cotton. Several colors to choose from for the little one. Like the previous one, it has windows and ties for curtains.

Brand MAMA Wigwam (Teepee) Eco-friendly materials: high-quality MDF, water-based paints, soft mattress inside.

Do your children also love these kinds of play spaces?
