How to decorate a children's room for New Year

Как украсить детскую к Новому году

As we create a New Year's mood, we decorate the hallway, living room, kitchen, balconies — and often forget about the children's room. Yet, it is precisely for children during these pre-New Year days that it is so important to create an atmosphere of magic and anticipation of a miracle.

Children start waiting for the holiday long before New Year's: they write letters to Santa Claus and wait for a fairy tale to come into their home. When my children were little, I always tried not just to decorate the house and their room, but also to create intrigue for them.

For example, I would buy 12 gnomes and carefully hide them around the house among the decorations—just enough so that a tiny bit of each was visible. The children enthusiastically searched for all the gnomes. They had fun and it was interesting, and a special New Year's atmosphere was created in the house.

You can decorate a child's room in different ways. You can make decorations together with the children, or you can arrange a surprise—for example, decorate the room at night so that in the morning the child wakes up and sees that a fairy tale has come into the house.

But the most important thing in a child's room is the safety of the decorations:

  • It's better not to hang glass toys. There is now a huge selection of beautiful plastic Christmas tree decorations that are indistinguishable from glass ones.
  • Electric garlands are not recommended in rooms for children under 12 years old. Instead, you can hang a beautiful garland made of simple, safe materials.
  • Soft toys can easily be turned into New Year's characters—for example, by putting Santa hats on all of them.

You can also draw a Christmas tree on the wall or attach paper gift bags and create an advent calendar-style intrigue with them.
