Reading is a useful and exciting activity that helps a child develop memory, speech, thinking, and imagination.
Vocabulary development begins at 10 months – from this age, you can already start reading to your baby. By two years old, a child begins to perceive individual phrases as a narrative, and by three, they become not only an active listener but also a conversationalist.
Allow your child to participate in choosing a book. Different genres are useful in their own way: poetry develops a sense of rhythm, prose helps acquire speech skills, and fairy tales enrich imagination and teach morality. Don't force them to read what they find uninteresting – on the contrary, support what they already enjoy.
To engage your child, read together by roles. This way, any story turns into an adventure, and everyone has fun.
And of course, create a cozy reading spot:
- Arrange books on open shelves – beautifully and so that hands and eyes are naturally drawn to them.
- Make the reading spot itself interesting – an unusually shaped armchair, a hammock, a tent with pillows, a window seat, a pouf under a canopy. Believe us, children find this much more engaging. This place will be associated with reading for them – they will remember how good they felt there and return to it themselves.
- Ensure good lighting – to keep your child's eyes healthy.
And most importantly – be an example yourself. Showing by your own example once is more effective than just telling ten times.
