Let's talk about how furniture stores and some designers create children's rooms without understanding the needs of the child themselves. I admit, it upsets me.
Beautiful packaging, well-thought-out marketing — everything is appealing, trendy, and mothers are delighted with the pictures. It's pleasing to the eye, no doubt. But what then?
If you look at it from the perspective of a child's quality of life in such conditions, I would say this: a room designed only outwardly risks giving a child a set of complexes and anxieties — all for their parents' money. Therefore, yes, I am against thoughtless interiors for children. And then we are genuinely surprised:
— Oh, my child is withdrawn.
— He doesn't communicate with anyone and doesn't want to go out.
— He's almost never happy…
If this were a "Bad Advice" book (remember those?), it would say: if you want your child to always be sad, place them in an absolutely monochrome interior.
Or like in a scary fairy tale:
In a gray-gray country, in a gray-gray city, in a gray-gray apartment, in a gray-gray room, who lived there? Of course, a gray-gray child — with gray-gray thoughts and gray-gray emotions. He never smiled or laughed. Gray-gray parents bought him gray-gray toys: when he behaved well — white, when badly — black. And the window was covered with a gray-gray curtain so that the child would never see that the world is colorful.
Color is indeed very important for expressing emotions. Children get energy from color, like from batteries. And when there is no color, there are no emotions.
I always wonder what parents are thinking when they allow such an environment to be created for their child.
A separate issue is the gender identity of the interior, and this is important for a child at any age. In such pictures, the guidelines are blurred to complete neutrality: both blue (traditionally "boyish") and pink (traditionally "girlish") are worn down to gray.
Such an interior itself is beautiful and elegant, balanced in color and composition. But all these shades of gray are good for an office. There — yes, it would be wonderful: the gray palette removes excess emotions and helps to focus on work.
So if someone wants to create an absolutely gray bedroom for a child, I advise you to think hard. Would you want them to sleep, study, play, and grow — in an office?
