What colors should I choose for a baby's room?

Какие цвета выбрать для комнаты младенца

In their first year of life, babies are just beginning to "unpackage" their vision. They still distinguish colors poorly, but react sharply to contrast and bright light. That's why it's so important not to overload the space and to choose soft, "quiet" shades.

Gentle pastels are your main ally

Milky, peachy, warm beige, gray-blue, sage — all these shades give a baby a sense of calm and safety. They become a serene backdrop against which the baby feels comfortable falling asleep and being awake.

Contrast is needed — but in moderation

Without contrast, a child cannot focus their gaze, so it is necessary. But contrast and bright colors should be added carefully and sparingly, without overloading the room. A few tips:

  • hang a high-contrast mobile temporarily, then remove it so the baby doesn't get tired of focusing their gaze;
  • add contrasting patterns to bedding and change it periodically;
  • place a toy of a new color in the crib for a while.

Avoid acid colors

Neon and acid shades can irritate a baby's still-developing nervous system, causing overstimulation and difficulty falling asleep. These colors are not found in nature, and for an infant, whose environment is a source of learning, they are too aggressive.

Color as a background, not a dominant feature

A baby is, in itself, a powerful source of emotions and impressions. Therefore, the space around them should be a calm background, not competing with them for attention. The quieter and softer the environment in the first year, the calmer and more confident the baby feels.
