How to furnish a nursery on a budget when prices are rising every day? I'm sharing tips and tricks from my many years of experience.
Walls
Wallpaper has always been and remains the most budget-friendly option – proven. Look out for sales: you can find interesting and inexpensive options there. It's especially cost-effective to buy remnants – 2–3 rolls. For one room, choose two different but harmoniously matching color options and combine them. Patterned and printed wallpapers pair well with solid colors in the same tone.
Another trick: buy the cheapest wallpaper or use old wallpaper left over from a previous renovation, and hang it reverse side out, without a pattern. Cover one wall or the perimeter up to 120 cm high – and let your child draw and develop their creative abilities.
Floor
If the apartment is new and the floor is just cement, the most budget-friendly option is to find laminate flooring – also on sale. For two or three years, this is an ideal solution: it's low-maintenance, warm for bare feet, and a skilled dad or grandpa can easily install it.
And mom or grandma can sew a cozy patchwork rug for crawling – any size and color. You can go further and make matching pillows, bedspreads, and even curtains. But then it's best to leave the walls solid, otherwise, it will be too busy.
Furniture
Old furniture can be restored: reupholstered with new material, painted. Or you can make it yourself – then the color scheme is entirely up to you. Restoration ideas are easy to find online: "new old" items look unique and cozy.
Such furniture holds warmth – just like mothers once sewed blankets for their children, putting all their love into them.
